In the ancient practice of Astrology, the configuration of celestial objects (planets, stars) is assumed to correlate with human behavior based on the general idea of "as above, so below". This idea has taken many different forms throughout history. In popular culture, the most common idea associated with astrology is that date of birth can be used to predict personality by dividing people up into 12 different categories based on date of birth. And often this is more complicated with people being in different categories for different aspects of their personality, though in common conversation the 'one person, one sign' is the most commonly relied upon framework.
The ZAPS was created in 2022 by having people familiar with astrology rate personality items according to which sign they should be associated with. People's ratings were found to have fairly high levels of consistency, so the stereotypes of what the different signs are supposed to be like are coherent. The top voted descriptions for each sign were combined to make a personality test that users can take to see if their self description matches up with how their astrological sign is described by others. The test consists of 48 statements that must be rated on how much you agree with them. The median time to complete is 4 minutes. Results are free.
